Nicolas had come down the stairs , he was set for church , dressed in an army green suit a white shirt and black bowtie.
Chief Agumba downed the glass of alcohol, belched before he replied his son's greetings .
"Where are you going Nwajesus ?" Chief Agumba mocked his son , Nicolas ignored his father's jest .
"Papa I'm going to church , can we use your car ?" He asked his father . His boys were washing the four cars in the carport.
"Can you hear yourself Nicolas ? which day have you ever carried water to wash my car ?" The chief grunted .
"But dad you have boys , are Chinweike and Izzuna complaining ? My school takes up all my free time ." he mumbled .
"Get out of my face you stupid boy! get away , go and carry your mother's car !" He yelled at his son . "I don't want to see you knew my car , Jesus will give you his car ." Agumba grumbled .
"Mum is going to women's meeting at Zuba , We have four cars in the compound , why can't I take one to church , I've my driver's licence Dad ?" Nicolas complained bitterly .
"I said no! Walk to church or better still go and meet your mother to give you transport
, I won't give you one kobo ." Chief Agumba said vehemently.
" okay Dad no problem , if we can't go with your car , can we get money to get a taxi?" Nicolas asked . Akunna and Dabere , got out of the duplex to join their brother .
"See Nicolas you're disturbing my morning , if you people cannot walk to church , please trek , when I was your age I used to trek two miles to my Oga's shop in Onitsha , you people in have been spoilt ." He said and poured another bottle of the yellow drink into his bottle . "Or go and meet your mother .Don't disturb me ." He said , pouring another glass of alcohol.
Nicolas stormed into the house to go and report to his mother , his sisters stood next to their father .
"Daddy look at money in your wallet, why don't you want to give us transport fare to church ?" Akunna asked her father , he ignored her , he tore a piece from the grilled chicken that sat with the bottle of Tequila , he didn't know why his children couldn't understand that money was the only thing that mattered in life .
"Akunna let me ask you a question , has your God ever brought food to this house before ? all he knows is to scam people of their hard earned money , in the name of tithe and offering . there's no God In that church , you're just wasting your time going to church ." He paused , poured a mouth full of tequila to wash the meet down , Akunna and Dabere stared at their father with disbelief.
"Papa I will keep praying that God will save your soul." Akunna said .
"God cannot save my soul , there's no God , God is just what the British created to control minds of their slaves ." Chief Agumba said laughing . Christiana gave her son two thousand five hundred naira , to pay their transport to church . She would have joined them , but she had to go and help her sister at Zuba to prepare for Idimili Progressive women group , they held their meeting once every first Sunday of the month .
Nicolas got outside the house . "Akunna let's go ." He said to his younger sisters ,Doggy their pet dog sat next to Chief ,waiting for his share of the grilled chicken .
"Dad that's blasphemy, I pray God save your soul ." Dabere said before joining her siblings who were already going out of the gate .
Chief slice a large chunk of the meat and threw it at Doggy , the German shepherd in grabbed the meat and began to crush it .
"Izzuna come and carry this chicken return my Tequila back to the winery , if you drink from it , we'll have a serious problem ." He said , a call came through from Japan , it was Yamamoto , his spare part associate from Japan .
"Mr Takashi my friend how are you doing ?" chief asked with a strong Anambra accent .
"I am fine , have you sent the money ?" The Japanese asked.
"Yes I've sent the money , I transferred two million dollars to your Mitsubishi Bank , hope all the consignment are already on the high air ?" He asked .
"Yes sir , everything is intact , it will arrive in Lagos airport by six A.M tomorrow." The Japanese man said , before he hung up the call .
"Chike where are you going ? didn't you go to church with your siblings ?" Chief asked , Chike smiled .
"Papa church is for small boys and women ." Chike said laughing . "Men look for money ." Chief Agumba was so impressed with his son , he knew a lion couldn't give birth to a goat , he was happy Nicolas wasn't his first .
"Where are you going to Na if not church ?" The chief asked .
"Dad I want to go and pick my girlfriend from the airport , she just landed from America." Chike said , Chief gave him a backhand shake and brought out a bundle of money from his pocket .
"This is two hundred thousand naira , use it to take her shopping, buy something for her ." Chike collected the money and shook his dad, then got into his father's Tacoma and drove towards the Area one highway. The chief praised his wife's beauty so much that she beamed in smile.
When they had all gone out , Chief Agumba went into the house locked the door and entered into his secret chamber , he began to light up the red and black candles , it illumanated the room . He sat down on his prayer mat and began to make incantations." he placed a hand on the skull , closed his eyes as he continued speaking in strange tongues and making incantations.
